"Grand alliance" won't succeed in AP: Chiranjeevi

Hyderabad (PTI): The "grand alliance" of TDP, TRS, CPI and CPI(M) in Andhra Pradesh will not be successful as claimed by its leaders, actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi claimed on Sunday.

"They are claiming that it is a grand alliance which would win 200 out of 294 assembly seats. It is like sitting on a wooden horse and feeling that they are racing ahead," Chiranjeevi, who kicked off his mass-contact programme in Nizamabad district, told reporters.

Taking a dig at Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said the TRS president chose to join hands with TDP after holding talks with Praja Rajyam over seat-sharing for the elections.

"We have always been positive towards separate Telangana demand. Chandrasekhar Rao had even said Chiranjeevi is one step ahead of others over Telangana demand. He should explain why he preferred TDP over us," he said.

The TRS held talks with both TDP and Praja Rajyam for electoral alliance but announced its decision yesterday to join the "grand alliance".

Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh are due to be held along with general elections in the country.
