Congress suppressing Praja Rajyam, says Chiranjeevi

SULLURIPETA (NELLORE DIST): Praja Rajyam president K.Chiranjeevi has accused the ruling Congress of trying to suppress his party and create hurdles as it panicked over the huge response from the people.

Addressing a series of public meetings during his maiden visit to Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district after launching the party, he said, “They (Congress) might have muscle power, but I have the support of the public and none can stop Chiranjeevi from coming to people.” Trying to strike a sentimental chord, he said that he had close association with Nellore and recalled the childhood days he spent at his grandmother’s house in the district. Mr. Chiranjeevi, who addressed public meetings at Sulluripeta, Venkatagiri and Gudur towns, charged the ruling Congress party with creating hurdles for the party’s activities right from the first meeting held at Avilala in Chittoor district. “The harassment is continuing till today.”

Launching a scathing attack on both the Congress and Telugu Desam, he said the government was taking away valuable lands in the name of setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and providing jobs.

It was deceiving farmers and the poor, while there was no progress on SEZs. He alleged that both the parties had resorted to corruption in the State and shared the spoils. Now, Congress and TDP are trying their best to prevent others from entering politics. “Those who try to suppress Praja Rajyam will be wiped out in the coming elections,” he said and urged the people to teach both the parties a lesson.
Defends Pawan

Reacting to the statements of some political leaders on Pawan Kalyan’s comments, Mr. Chiranjeevi said: “What is wrong in my brother’s comments?

The vulgar behaviour and the fighting seen in Assembly are highly objectionable. Pawan spoke about some corrupt Congress leaders and there is no need to find fault with him.” The actor asked the people to give Praja Rajyam one opportunity by voting for it in the elections.

Regarding the allegations on his blood bank by some leaders, he quipped, “What were they doing for the past few years? The same leaders appreciated me saying that I was doing service to the needy poor.”

Earlier, he performed special pujas in Chengalamma temple at Sulluripet and Hanuman temple in Tada mandal and garlanded the statue of Ambedkar at Naidupeta in the district.

Party official spokesman P. Mitra, district in-charge Kamineni Srinivas, convenor Bommireddy Srinivas, joint convenor Vanki Penchalaiah and others participated.
